Poet Erin McElroy can now add “published” to her resume.
A poem by the Mission Viejo High School senior has been included in a book compiled by the National Library of Poetry.
The 17-year-old’s poem was published in a 600-page poetry volume, “The Rippling Water.” The book was released in November and has since been targeted for worldwide distribution, National Library representatives said.
McElroy said she was honored but very surprised that her poem, which is untitled, was chosen for publication. She said she entered the National Library contest last year for the experience, though “I thought it would be neat to be published.”
McElroy has been writing poetry for four years and hopes to continue penning poems next year at Saddleback College.
The book of original poetry that includes McElroy’s work is on display in the school’s library.
