2 More Portable Classrooms Planned

Share

Continuing to make space for smaller classes, Conejo Valley school trustees are expected to purchase another two portable classrooms at a total cost of about $99,000 plus installation.

The portable classrooms, expected to arrive over the summer, will be installed at Westlake and Westlake Hills elementary schools.

Prompted by a state incentive program that offers $650 for every primary grade student enrolled in a class of 20 or fewer, the school district has trimmed first- through third-grade classes.

To meet program-funding demands, many school districts--Conejo Valley Unified among them--have doubled up classes, putting 40 students and two teachers in one room to attain the 20-to-1 ratio. Come September, state law will require each smaller class to have its own classroom.

The school district has already purchased seven portables from Modtech, Inc., according to district Facilities Director Sean G. Corrigan.

Trustees will consider the measure at their regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at district headquarters, 1400 E. Janss Road.
