AGUA DULCE — A Palmdale woman was fatally injured Sunday morning, when the car she was riding in flipped over on the Antelope Valley Freeway, police said.
The accident led authorities to close a section of the freeway’s northbound lanes for nearly two hours, police said.
Yanira Martinez, 26, was ejected from the car and died instantly of massive injuries, said Officer Ken Lane of the California Highway Patrol.
The driver, David Gonzalez, also 26 and a Palmdale resident, was treated for minor injuries at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, Lane said.
Police did not know whether Martinez and Gonzalez were wearing seat belts.
Police said the two were traveling southbound on the freeway near Escondido Canyon Road at about 6:30 a.m. when their Honda Accord flipped over for an undetermined reason. The car, traveling at 65 to 70 mph, came to rest in the road’s northbound lanes, police said.
