Internet in France

Share

Re “Why the French Hate the Internet,” Jan. 27: I would like to say that although most French do not share our enthusiasm for the Internet, I was pleasantly surprised when, after accepting a university visiting scholar position there a couple of months ago, I was able to negotiate the terms of my appointment, arrange housing and even discuss my course syllabus with some of my future colleagues--all through e-mail.

Based on my observations, I think that the French are receptive to new technological ways of communication, but they are not about to replace the human contact for the “thrill” that many Americans get by finding a wealth of recreational use through the Internet.
