Commercial Use of Base Still Opposed

Share

Holding true to pattern, the Camarillo City Council reaffirmed its position against the commercial use of Point Mugu Naval Air Station.

Recent discussion among nearby cities, the base and residents prompted the council to draft a letter of opposition to any kind of joint use.

The council has historically been against commercial use of Point Mugu because of air and noise pollution and potential traffic problems.

Councilwoman Charlotte Craven said the letter will be sent to six Navy officials. In the meantime, the Point Mugu Regional Airport Authority--a panel of elected officials from four cities and the county who support commercial airlines’ use of the base--is continuing to negotiate with the Navy to hammer out an agreement by summer.
