LAKE FOREST — Despite the efforts of three Good Samaritans, a 49-year-old Sun City truck driver died Thursday after pulling over and collapsing on the shoulder of the Santa Ana Freeway, officials said.
Billy Scott Catlin died at Saddleback Valley Hospital after parking his truck along the shoulder of the northbound freeway at 3:30 p.m. and succumbing to a heart attack or other malady, according to Officer Carol Kelly of the California Highway Patrol.
Three drivers who saw Catlin in distress stopped and administered CPR until paramedics arrived, and did an “outstanding job,” Kelly said, citing the comments of emergency workers. The three drivers were identified only as Orange County residents.
