Roland Brownsberger; Former LaVerne, Pomona Judge
Roland J. Brownsberger, a former judge in LaVerne and Pomona, has died at age 88.
Brownsberger died Monday night in the Pomona Valley Community Medical Center.
Born in the territory of Arizona on Sept. 16, 1908, Brownsberger moved to Southern California as a child and lived the rest of his life in LaVerne. He graduated from the University of LaVerne and the USC School of Law.
Brownsberger practiced law from 1935 to 1953 with the firm Allard, Brownsberger, Shelton & O’Connor and served as LaVerne city judge from 1941 to 1953. That year, Gov. Earl Warren named Brownsberger to the Pomona Municipal Court, where he served until his retirement in 1968.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Aileen; a son, Bill; two daughters, Jane Rincon and Sally Prusia; a brother, Kenneth; a sister, Helen Ebersole; and six grandchildren.
