Authorities were searching Friday for a motorist who shot another driver in the parking lot of a Ventura toy store after a confrontation on the Ventura Freeway.

David Segovia, 18, of Oxnard was treated for a gunshot to the left thigh after the incident at 4:35 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of Toys R Us on Johnson Drive.

The gunman is still at large, said Ventura Police Sgt. Bob Velez.

Segovia told authorities that he was driving north from Oxnard and became involved in a verbal altercation with the suspect, according to Velez.

The men pulled off the freeway and parked in the toy store lot, where the argument continued.

“Both men got out of their cars, and as soon as the gun comes out, Mr. Segovia turns and runs,” Velez said.

“Mr. Segovia was actually running when the guy fired the weapon,” Velez said.

Segovia was struck once in the left thigh. He got back in his car and drove to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where he was treated and released, Velez said.

The description of the suspect was sketchy, Velez said.
