Orange Police Set Up Fund to Aid Mother of Toddler Who Was Killed

Share

Members of the Police Department and the City of Orange Police Assn. have created a trust fund to help the mother of a toddler killed when a car jumped a curb, officials said Friday.

Maria Castillo was standing on the southeast corner of Chapman Avenue and Hewes Street with her son, Daniel Serna, in a stroller at 6 p.m. Tuesday when a car veered off the road, hitting the stroller and a light pole, police said.

The toddler died shortly afterward at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.

The crash remained under investigation Friday, police said. It remains unclear why the driver, an 18-year-old Trabuco Canyon woman, swerved at the corner, police said.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the Daniel Serna Memorial can make a check payable to the City of Orange Police Assn., with the notation that it is for the fund. The association will then forward the money to Daniel’s family, police said.
