Card Game Ends in Man’s Slaying

In a crime reminiscent of a gangster film, a 54-year-old man was shot to death in a dispute during a card game, then heaved out of a second-story window, a police spokesman said.

Police are seeking Felipe Tule, 22, in the Valentine’s Day killing of Jesus Diaz, Van Nuys Homicide Det. Stephen Fisk said. Tule fled the scene in a blue Chevy pickup, license number 5K26405.

Witnesses told investigators the two men were playing cards at about 5 a.m. Friday inside an apartment in the 14800 block of Roscoe Boulevard when an argument erupted. Moments later, Tule fired several shots and threw Diaz out a window onto a small walkway below, Fisk said.

The gunman told several people in the apartment “to clean up the mess and not call the police,” the detective said. Tule also said he was going to dump the body in Compton but fled without doing so, police said.

Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene.
