From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Jim Kolbe (R-Ariz.) announced formation of the Public Pension Reform Caucus in the Republicans’ weekly radio broadcast. Kolbe and Rep. Charles W. Stenholm (D-Texas) will co-chair the group. Among reasons President Clinton has given for opposing the amendment is that it might force budget writers to cut Social Security retirement benefits in the future to meet the mandate.
