Police Baffled by Mysterious Children

The children say they don’t know their real names, their birth dates or where they were born. And that’s barely half the mystery that has unfolded since police found them at a Chattanooga hotel. The boy, about 5, likes to be called Scarecrow and has an imaginary wife named Honey. The girl, about 8, has told police her name is either Barbie, Kimberly or Gail, her mother is dead and she was born in a month starting with the letters M-a. The boy, however, calls her Alicia. Authorities have talked to a man who claimed to be the children’s father and to a woman who says she is their mother, but they aren’t sure what to believe. The children are being kept in foster care. They showed no signs of abuse.
