Playoff Hopes Rest With Home Stretch

They haven’t done it on the road, so the Mighty Ducks had better make hay while they’re in the Anaheim sunshine.

They play 10 of their next 14 games at home, where their record is a solid 14-12-2.

Then the season ends with eight of 11 on the road, where they are 8-17-4. The longest trip of the season is still ahead, a six-game stretch in March that includes games against Calgary, Vancouver and Chicago--their competition for the final Western Conference playoff spots.

“It’s hard to get a good streak going when you’re a middle-of-the-road team and you’re playing all your games on the road,” Coach Ron Wilson said.

Taking a cushion into the final weeks of the season would be a good idea--especially after missing the playoffs by a single point last season.

Wilson is banking on this stretch at home.

“We’ve played very well at home,” he said. “I’m confident we can keep playing well.”
