2 Firms to Study Old Town Upgrade

It looks as if a face-lift might be in store for Camarillo’s Ventura Boulevard area by the beginning of summer.

The Camarillo City Council unanimously approved Mainstreet Architects & Planners and Economic Research Associates to decide the fate of the neglected strip.

Mainstreet Architects of Ventura was chosen to make architectural recommendations because it has extensive experience in redeveloping areas of Fillmore and Ventura.

The approximate cost of the work is $42,000, which will be covered by a community development block grant.

Economic Research Associates of Los Angeles will conduct the economic study and make presentations to the citizens advisory committee and the council.

That will cost the city approximately $30,000 in additional block grant funds.

Both consulting firms will receive money from the city only after completing directed tasks, and the council has the option to cancel the agreement and reassign the study if it feels there is reason to do so.

“The times seem to be ripe to give this district a ‘face-lift’ to restore its former charm and vitality, as Camarillo has matured into an economic force to be reckoned with by its neighboring cities,” Mainstreet stated in its proposal.

“We are confident that with our team’s expertise in the planning and design of small downtown environments, we can help the old town area become a vital and enjoyable focus of community life again and a draw for regional day visitors as well,” the firm said.
