Cal State Long Beach has received a $2-million grant from the federal Economic Development Administration to begin developing a research park on former Navy housing property.
The university plans to spend some of the money renovating and rewiring buildings at the Cabrillo and Savannah housing projects in West Long Beach.
The research park is expected to serve the university and area businesses by providing space and personnel for development of new technologies.
University President Robert Maxson said the center is expected to provide up to 3,000 jobs and $176 million to the regional economy.
