Pat LaFontaine, 31, wants to continue his career with the Buffalo Sabres but would follow the advice of doctors if they suggested he retire.
The 14-year veteran, sidelined since Nov. 7 with post-concussion syndrome, showed significant progress last week during two days of tests at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. But doctors still want to see more improvement before clearing him to play.
Since the injury, LaFontaine had experienced spells of dizziness, nausea and severe headaches.
