* Gregory Royal--Royal arrived in Los Angeles recently, hoping to get a deal going for a TV game show. That didn’t pan out, but Royal has a couple of backup plans, one of which involves playing jazz trombone. The 35-year-old performs with a quartet Saturday at J.P.’s Lounge. Royal, who has a master’s in music from Howard University, has had some wide-ranging experience. He spent a year working with drum master Art Blakey in 1979 and later landed spots in the Broadway and touring orchestras of “Five Guys Named Moe.” At J.P.’s, Royal will offer standards as well as originals. “I like to play pretty stuff,” he said. The show is from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. J.P.’s Lounge is at 1333 Hollywood Way, Burbank; no cover, no minimum; (818) 845-1800.
