State Grant to Buy Books for Program
The city has been awarded a $5,000 state library grant for “Grandparents and Books,” an intergenerational program that promotes reading.
The money will be used to buy new books for the program and for public use.
The program will begin next month at the Haskett Reading Center, 2650 W. Broadway. Volunteers 55 and older will be recruited to read aloud and share books with children after school and on Saturdays at the library. Volunteers are asked to commit one to two hours a week.
