School Is Sued Over Girl’s Sex Assault

Share

The guardian of a 7-year-old girl sexually assaulted inside a bathroom at Calvary Christian School in Santa Ana is suing the school operators, saying they failed to provide adequate security for the campus.

The victim and another female classmate were molested Feb. 5. Five days later, police arrested a 31-year-old registered sex offender, Jose Artemio Arriaga, in connection with the assaults. Arriaga also was charged with exposing himself to two other girls at the school.

In the lawsuit, the girl’s guardian said that school operators failed to build a gate around the campus and that employees did not enforce a rule requiring students to use hall passes when walking through the halls.

The lawsuit also contends that the girls’ restroom was not locked and that no hall monitors were on duty.

The guardian is also suing Arriaga, a Santa Ana roofer who had been arrested previously on suspicion of indecent exposure.
