Father Files Claim Over Slaying of Son by Deputies

Attorneys for the father of an 18-year-old Lynwood man who was shot to death by sheriff’s deputies filed a claim seeking unspecified damages against the county Friday, saying the deputies shot the man in the back and violated his civil rights.

Anthony Golden, 39, a self-employed mechanic, said his son, Antonio Golden, was on his way home with some friends about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday when deputies approached the group and began questioning them.

The young man tried to ride away on his bicycle, but the deputies followed him in a sheriff’s vehicle, Golden said. The deputies struck the man with their car and then shot him in the back and thigh, Golden said.

A Sheriff’s Department spokesman said Golden had “confronted the deputies” and pointed a handgun at them.
