County Plans 2 Road Improvement Projects

Residents of Agoura and Hidden Hills may have to adjust their commuting patterns for a while in the spring and summer as Los Angeles County begins drainage improvement and slope protection projects in those areas.

Plans for a project to construct slope protection that will affect Kanan Road in Agoura Hills and a project to install a storm-drain system on Round Meadow Road in Hidden Hills were announced this week by county Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky. For the Kanan Road project, which is scheduled to begin in June, the county will open the bidding process March 18. The work will involve constructing slope protection and a manhole, as well as relocating an existing 18-inch corrugated steel drainage pipe.

Funding for the project will be provided by the Federal Highway Administration under the Federal Emergency Relief Disaster Assistance Program. Construction is expected to begin in June and take about 40 working days.

Two traffic lanes and some left-turn lanes will be maintained on Kanan Road during working hours.

In Hidden Hills, a project to install 1,400 feet of a storm-drain system at a cost of $438,100 will begin in April. Construction, expected to take about 45 working days, will relieve the flooding problem often experienced in the area, Yaroslavsky said.

Once work begins, traffic on Round Meadow Road and possibly other surrounding streets may be impeded.
