Surgery to End Perreault Season

Share

Forward Yanic Perreault, who has sat out the last eight games because of a rib injury, will have season-ending surgery March 7 to repair an obstructed kidney, which was discovered in a recent MRI exam.

“It’s an unfortunate situation,” Coach Larry Robinson said about Perreault’s surgery. “This is something more than hockey related. It’s something that needs to be addressed right away so he can get on with his career.”

Urologist Lawrence Paletz will perform the surgery at Centinela Hospital Medical Center.

Perreault, 25, has 11 goals and 25 points in 41 games. Last season, he had 25 goals and 49 points in 78 games.

The surgery is not considered career-threatening.

Defenseman Doug Zmolek, who has sat out the last three games because of an irregular heartbeat, will not play against the Vancouver Canucks tonight at the Forum as planned because team doctors do not want to rush him back after he had to have his heart electronically regulated for the second time within a month.
