Halting Illegal Immigration

Share

After reading Frank del Olmo’s Feb. 16 column, “Human Behavior Skews Best Intentions,” I can say he hasn’t a clue when it comes to the issue of illegal immigration. He believes there is “probably” nothing we can do to halt illegal immigration. He believes that illegal immigration is “the end result of millions of individual decisions made by millions of human beings.” And, he goes on to say, “neither governments nor laws” can control these decisions.

Yes, there is a connection between free medical, educational and welfare benefits and the massive influx of poor Third World immigrants.

The people of California understood this when they overwhelmingly approved Proposition 187. We need to deport, not support, illegal aliens.

Re “A Deal on Immigrant Aid That Wilson Should Accept,” editorial, Feb. 14: According to your editorial, Gov. Pete Wilson should go along with the Clinton proposal to continue SSI to immigrants, because the tax money coming from Washington is a freebie.

Just where do you think the Washington money comes from? It is we, the taxpaying citizens, who have to come up with this rip-off every April 15.

The Times should get its head out of the sand and quit believing that unlimited immigration, be it legal or illegal, is good for the U.S. Our tax monies would be better off uplifting Los Angeles from its continuing slippage to a Third World city.
