City Weighs Job Firm in Hunt for Manager

Share

The Oxnard City Council will consider Tuesday whether to hire a head-hunting firm to search for a replacement for fired City Manager Tom Frutchey or conduct the process in-house. The council could also decide to hire an executive search firm to recruit candidates and then have city staff interview them.

Contracting a head-hunting company will cost about $21,000, said Personnel Manager Lino Corona.

Municipal staff may not have the time to do a similar search and have never recruited a city manager through such a process, Corona said. However, successful in-house recruitment of a fire chief, finance director and other department heads have occurred.

In any case, the search process is expected to last 12 to 16 weeks.

Frutchey was fired Feb. 4 after three years as the city’s top administrator. He was the city’s fourth manager in six years.

Assistant City Manager Prisilla Hernandez was named to head the city on an interim basis until Frutchey’s successor is hired.

The council meeting begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 305 W. 3rd St.
