Puppy Love
Spring is just around the corner, and to animal shelters that means two things: Puppies and kittens. And more puppies and kittens. Foundlings turn up by the boxful, and many face death when homes cannot be found. . . . To get a jump on the mating season, the West Valley shelter in Chatsworth and the East Valley shelter in North Hollywood offer vouchers for free spaying and neutering to the first 25 pet owners who show up today.
Second Chance
. . . Those who miss free vouchers can still get coupons worth $20 off the cost of spay and neuter services by calling local shelters. In the West Valley, that’s (818) 882-8800. East Valley residents can call (818) 764-7061.
Campaign Trail
Local voters got up close and personal with Mayor Richard Riordan on Monday, as he brought his campaign for a second term to three Valley venues. Riordan lauded science scholars at Chatsworth High, toured a Panorama City housing complex and visited a Sun Valley aerospace firm. . . . His opponent, Tom Hayden, was on the stump in Hollywood, holding a news conference at a subway construction site to challenge safety inspections.
Tonight
Gashouse Dave plays the blues at 9 at Cozy’s, 14058 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks. No cover. Information: (818) 986-6000.
Weather
Very windy with a slight chance of showers. Highs to the 60s. B7
