The Cooper Cos. Inc.: The Irvine manufacturer of health care products posted strong gains in net income and revenue for the first fiscal quarter. The company earned $3.3 million, or 28 cents a share, in the three months ended Jan. 31, up from $652,000, or 6 cents a share, in the same period a year ago.
Revenue climbed 28% to $28.4 million from $22.2 million, as each of the company’s units recorded solid growth, said A. Thomas Bender, president and chief executive officer. The CooperVision contact lens business recorded a 20% increase in revenue, while the gynecology products unit, CooperSurgical, posted an increase of more tan 35%. Revenue increased more than 30% at Hospital Group of America, the mental health services group.
