Traffic Planning Is Focus of Forum
Got some opinions on the state of Southern California traffic heading into the 21st century? Be at the Civic Arts Plaza today, at 7 p.m.
The Southern California Assn. of Governments, better known as SCAG, will hold a town forum in Thousand Oaks tonight to discuss its regional transportation plan for the next 25 years or so. The hourlong meeting will also be broadcast live on TOTV, Thousand Oaks’ cable access channel.
SCAG’s regional transportation plan addresses anticipated traffic congestion in Southern California as the population increases into 2020. Commuters traveling into Los Angeles during rush hour currently average about 33 mph, according to SCAG. By 2020, that speed is expected to slow to 25 mph.
Panel members include Mayor Judy Lazar, Councilman Andy Fox, County Supervisor John K. Flynn, chair of the county’s transportation commission, and Hal Conklin, president of the Center for Civic Renewal. For more information, call the Thousand Oaks Media Services Office at 449-2120.
