More Burritos at Carl’s

CKE Restaurants Inc. said Wednesday that it will add Green Burrito menu items at 306 Carl’s Jr. restaurants, an increase from previous plans.

CKE earlier said it would add food from the Newport Beach-based Green Burrito chain at about 200 restaurants. CKE said that the increased number of “dual-brand” restaurants was driven by an amended agreement with GB Foods Corp., the parent company of Green Burrito. So far, 66 Carl’s Jr. restaurants have added Green Burrito menu items.

The dual-branding program “has been extremely successful for Carl’s Jr. and we’ve decided to significantly increase the number of conversions,” said Tom Thompson, CKE president and chief operating officer. Average sales have increased by 25% at locations featuring both burgers and burritos, Thompson said.
