17. CASTAIC LAKE--Winds have kept anglers away but those able to get on the lake and lagoon did well. Mike Carpenter and Doug Engh, Canyon Country, 32 bass totaling 87 pounds, at 15 feet on Wham Fisheze lures. Mike Woernley, Saugus, a 14-pound 10-ounce bass caught on a water dog one day, and 20 bass to 10-4 on crawdads on another.

18. LAKE PIRU--Several limits of trout, most by trollers using Rapalas and Needlefish at east end. Largemouth bass action picking up in shallows off points and in coves. Plastic worms and Pig-n-jigs best. A few catfish landed at north end.

19. PYRAMID LAKE--Largemouth and smallmouth bass biting on plastic worms, night crawlers and crawdads. Bear Trap best bet. Striped bass slow, with a few being caught on anchovies at 50-60 feet at dam.

20. LAKE CACHUMA--Trout best bet, but few limits reported. Needlefish lures trolled at east end getting most. Occasional largemouth bass caught on spinnerbaits in mornings, plastic worms in afternoons.

21. LAKE CASITAS--Largemouth bass biting, with big fish caught near underwater structure. Scott Hall, Camarillo, 14-8 bass, on Rapala. Lee Hawley, Ventura, 11-pound bass, on plastic shad lure. Kym Shull, Oak View, 10-pound bass, on water dog. Smaller fish in shallows biting on plastic worms and night crawlers. Some trout and catfish.

22. CORONA LAKE--Trout fair at north end, slow elsewhere. Raphaela Pulera, Fontana, 13-pound trout, on Panther Martin. Andy Aguirre, Riverside, 12-6 trout, on Power Bait. Several between five and 10 pounds.

23. SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES--Power Bait, Mepps lures, Super Dupers and mini-jigs accounted for most of the big trout. Largest 14-2 by Vern Hart, Huntington Beach, while trolling a Mepps. Rory Tagami, Baldwin Park, 14-pound trout, on Power Bait at Levitz Corner.

24. IRVINE LAKE--Limits of trout common, with some stringers holding five-pounders. Steve Enright, Orange, 7-8 trout, on fire-tiger Rapala at west shore. Power Bait and inflated night crawlers also working. Largemouth bass active off points, biting on plastics at about 12 feet.

25. LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE--Salmon eggs, Power Bait and night crawlers getting trout from two to four pounds. Many limits. Amy Parks, Dana Point, eight-pound trout on red Power Bait at Three Pipes. Largemouth bass moving into shallows, biting mainly on night crawlers. Some catfish.

26. LAKE SKINNER--Catfish action fair at east end and dam. Anchovies and mackerel taking most. Some crappie at points near marina. Some trout at Ramp 2, with a few as heavy as four pounds. Striped bass fishing slow, but a 12-pounder was caught on a plug.

27. LAKE PERRIS--Largemouth bass highly active. Mike Mendoza, Colton, 13-6 bass, on purple plastic worm at marina bank. Eli Keener, Huntington Beach, 11-pound bass on green plastic worm at marina bank. Joe Valentine, Moreno Valley, 10-8 bass, on crawdad at dam. Lots more over five pounds.

28. SAN DIEGO CITY LAKES--El Capitan: Very good bass bite, with many anglers reporting multiple catches. Plastic worms and crawdads getting most. Crappie action steady at north end. Some catfish. Miramar: Among 466 anglers checked, they had 456 trout and 46 largemouth bass. Few limits. Lots of single-fish stringers. Otay: A good crappie bite and a fair bass bite. Biggest bass, 11-9 by Ed Outhy, Escondido, on a crawdad at Harvey Arm. San Vicente: Bass action very good. Largest a 13-pounder by Rick Suarez, El Cajon, on Power Bait-night crawler combination at fish float. Some trout.

29. LAKE CUYAMACA--Slow-trolling small spinners usually producing limits of pan-sized trout. Best bets: gold-bladed Panther Martins and orange or green Roostertails. Free fishing class every Saturday.

8. MARINA DEL REY--33 anglers (2 boats): 2 halibut, 4 sand bass, 2 sculpin.

11. LONG BEACH--12 anglers (1 boat): 14 sheephead, 45 perch, 5 sculpin, 4 rockfish.

12. SEAL BEACH--18 anglers (1 boat): 5 sand bass, 7 perch, 31 sculpin, 225 mackerel.
