Johnson Steps Back on the Mound

Seattle pitcher Randy Johnson threw 27 pitches to four batters in batting practice at the Mariner training camp in Peoria, Ariz.

It was the first time Johnson had been on a mound against a batter since he underwent surgery in September for a herniated disc in his lower back.

Former Boston Red Sox Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens made a successful debut for the Toronto Blue Jays, pitching three scoreless innings and striking out two in a 3-2 exhibition win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Dunedin, Fla. . . . Mitch Williams, who retired from the Angels in 1995, made his debut for the Kansas City Royals, pitching 1 2/3 innings and picking off two runners in a 6-4 exhibition loss to the Houston Astros at Haines City, Fla.
