Warner Bros. Records Cuts 90 Music Jobs

Nearly 90 employees at Warner Bros. Records lost their jobs as part of a cost-cutting move implemented by Chairman Russ Thyret, sources said. That raises the job cuts to about 110 at Time Warner Inc.’s Burbank-based record label--which includes about 24 staff positions that have vanished through attrition since November. Warner is also expected to slash a number of acts from its artist roster, but it is unclear how many bands will be issued pink slips before the year ends. Wednesday’s firings follow the dismissal last month of nearly three dozen employees in Time Warner’s music distribution arm, WEA. Time Warner’s other major labels, Elektra Entertainment and Atlantic Group, have already trimmed dozens of recording acts and fired more than 100 employees.
