McVeigh Is Denied Tapes of Witnesses
Prison recordings of telephone conversations between a couple expected to be key prosecution witnesses in the Oklahoma City bombing case will not be turned over to the defense, a judge ruled. Lawyers for defendant Timothy J. McVeigh had subpoenaed a copy of the recordings of conversations between Michael Fortier and his wife, Lori. Michael Fortier of Kingman, Ariz., is in prison awaiting sentencing. He has pleaded guilty to knowing about the bombing before the April 1995 attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building that claimed the lives of 168 people. Lori Fortier has been granted immunity.
