17. CASTAIC LAKE--Largemouth bass active in lake and lagoon. Pat Buckley, Castaic, 11-pound 12-ounce bass, on Swimbait lure and 11-13 bass on crawdad. Greg Hamilton, Castaic, 10-7 bass, on waterdog. Christina Lyttle, 9, Simi Valley, three bass, largest 7-2, on waterdogs.

18. LAKE PIRU--Trout biting for trollers at north end and dam. Needlefish and Rapalas accounting for many limits or near-limits. Largemouth bass biting mainly on night crawlers at Reasoner Cove. Ed Smith, Van Nuys, nine-pound bass, on Power Bait while fishing for trout.

19. PYRAMID LAKE--Largemouth and smallmouth bass biting on plastic worms and crawdads at Brazos and Bear Trap. Some striped bass caught at 50-60 feet on jigs.

20. LAKE CACHUMA--Trout biting on Needlefish at Cachuma Bay. Some limits on green Power Bait as well. Largemouth bass best in mornings, biting in shallows on spinnerbaits.

21. LAKE CASITAS--Largemouth bass active at 15-20 feet. Jake Bledsoe, 10, Ojai, 11-pound bass, on Castaic Soft Bait. Marlin Spencer, Santa Barbara, 13-pound bass, on homemade plug. Doc Holliday, Walnut, 10-2 bass, Castaic Soft Bait. Several limits of smaller bass on crawdads and plastic worms. Some trout. Very few catfish.

22. CORONA LAKE--Trout slow, but some big fish landed, topped by one 10-5 by John Escobedo, Long Beach, on a night crawler. Other species slow.

23. SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES--Sturgeon have stolen the spotlight from trout, with several fish landed on mackerel and anchovies. Largest, a 23-7 white sturgeon, on anchovies at Bubble Hole. Anglers will receive complimentary admission passes for releasing their sturgeon. Top trout 17-7, on Power Bait at Kids Lake.

24. IRVINE LAKE--Top trout, 12-5 by Brian Chevrier, Yorba Linda, on Blue Fox lure at west shore. Several others between five and six pounds. Lures accounting for most limits. Largemouth bass action has slowed. Crappie action picking up.

25. LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE--Several limits of trout and some fish to seven pounds. Pat Clark, Mission Viejo, 7-2 trout, on green Roostertail near creek inlet. A 2 1/4-pound crappie was landed by Don Smith, Costa Mesa, on a night crawler at Dock No. 5. Largemouth bass fair on night crawlers.

26. LAKE SKINNER--Trout action steady, with most caught on yellow lures and Power Bait. Catfish bite fair at east end. Striped bass slow to fair. Top catch, an 18-pound striper by Kevin Wood, Wildomar. Anchovies, chicken livers and plugs getting most.

27. LAKE PERRIS--Tom Whitman, Mission Viejo, 14-6 and 11-2 bass, on brown plastic worm at east end. Pete Malavenda, La Mirada, 12-2 bass, on purple plastic worm at east end. Rick Shugard, Big Bear Lake, 13-4 bass, on crawdad at island. Several smaller fish. Some trout.

28. SAN DIEGO CITY LAKES--El Capitan: Largemouth bass action picking up. Tom Niekirk, Vista, five bass, largest 10-15, on crawdads at north end. Crappie action fair. Some catfish. Miramar: Trout action fair to good, mostly on Power Bait. One was weighed in at six pounds. Murray: Trout best bet, but not many limits reported. Some bass. Largest four pounds. Otay: Bass activity has slowed, but one 11-1 was caught on a crawdad. Crappie best bet. San Vicente: An excellent bass bite in progress. Lots of limits, most coming on crawdads. Top fish, 9-6 by Rick Wilson, Lemon Grove.

29. LAKE CUYAMACA--Lots of limits of pan-sized trout. Trollers using small spinners and small, orange Rapalas getting most. Other species slow.

2. MORRO BAY (Virg’s Landing)--13 anglers (1 boat): 10 red snapper, 40 red rock cod, 20 rock cod, 60 assorted rockfish.

3. AVILA BEACH--26 anglers (2 boats): 224 rock cod, 15 lingcod, 1 green ling, 123 red snapper, 1 sheephead.

4. SANTA BARBARA (Sea Landing)--17 anglers (1 boat): 4 calico bass, 3 sand bass, 7 sculpin, 1 barracuda, 14 rockfish, 1 sheephead. (Hornet’s Landing)--3 anglers (1 boat): 15 sand bass, 1 red snapper, 1 rockfish, 1 sheephead.

6. OXNARD (Cisco’s)--24 anglers (1 boat): 1 lingcod, 25 rockfish, 8 sculpin, 2 sheephead, 51 whitefish, 1 cabezon.

7. PORT HUENEME--50 anglers (4 boats): 100 rock cod, 2 cow cod, 11 lingcod, 213 rockfish, 4 sculpin, 1 whitefish.

8. MARINA DEL REY--76 anglers (3 boats): 14 halibut, 8 sculpin, 9 sole, 2 sand bass, 81 rock cod, 1 cow cod. (In-Seine)--64 anglers (2 boats): 4 halibut, 7 sculpin.

9. REDONDO--83 anglers (3 boats): 1 sand bass, 15 halibut, 59 white croaker, 2 sole, 1 sculpin, 50 mackerel.

10. SAN PEDRO (22nd St. Landing)--20 anglers (1 boat): 14 calico bass, 125 bonito, 7 sculpin, 8 whitefish, 24 sheephead, 71 blue perch, 43 rockfish.

11. LONG BEACH (Belmont Pier)--10 anglers (1 boat): 1 ling cod, 3 red snapper, 110 rockfish, 1 sand bass, 6 sculpin, 2 sheephead, 38 whitefish.

12. SEAL BEACH--25 anglers (1 boat): 1 calico bass, 79 whitefish, 11 sheephead, 9 sculpin, 125 rockfish.

13. NEWPORT BEACH (Newport Landing)--20 anglers (1 boat): 31 sculpin, 5 sand bass. (Davey’s Locker)--25 anglers (1 boat): 1 calico bass, 16 sand bass, 93 sculpin, 1 blacksmith perch.

14. DANA WHARF--26 anglers (2 boats): 16 blue perch, 8 calico bass, 9 sand bass, 4 mackerel, 4 rockfish, 2 sculpin, 4 sheephead.

15. OCEANSIDE--34 anglers (2 boats): 5 calico bass, 36 sand bass, 2 halibut, 2 sheephead, 3 rockfish, 63 mackerel, 26 black sea bass (released).
