The Voice, Irvine Valley College’s student newspaper, received a top award from the Associated Collegiate Press at a national convention.

The newspaper placed second for Newspaper of the Year in the non-weekly category for two-year colleges. The newspaper’s staff was presented the award at the Associated Collegiate Press’ 13th annual National Newspaper Convention Feb. 23.

“To be up against so many excellent college newspapers from around the country and win is a great achievement for us,” said Tammy Livingstone, advertising manager of the Voice and president of Irvine Valley College’s Journalism Club. “It took dedication and hard work as a team.”

The national award is the second for the newspaper during the 1996-97 school year. In November, the Voice won third place for general excellence at the National College Media Convention in Orlando, Fla.

The Voice, first published on March 1, 1993, comes out 14 times a year.
