Chapman University has turned a spotlight on gay and lesbian filmmakers with a series of screenings that continues through May.

The series includes films by Dorothy Arzner, a lesbian director whose work spans three Hollywood decades, and a retrospective of Gus Van Sant, who directed “My Own Private Idaho.” Later in the spring, the university will screen films by Isaac Julien, Terence Davies, Monica Treut and R.W. Fassbinder.

Professor Everett Lewis of the university’s School of Film and Television will host the series, which is presented in Room 208 of Argyros Forum at 7:30 p.m. each Thursday through May 15, except March 27.

At the final meeting, the school will invite the audience to join in a discussion called “Queer Cinema,” and no films will be shown that night.

Admission to the series is free to the public. The school is at 333 N. Glassell St.
