Woman Held in Boyfriend’s Shooting
A domestic dispute left a 45-year-old man with a gunshot wound and his live-in girlfriend behind bars on suspicion of attempted murder, police said Wednesday.
Ernest Harold Luke and Sharon Kae Smith, 55, began arguing on the telephone Tuesday evening and continued fighting hours later when Luke returned to the couple’s home in the 7700 block of Santiago Canyon Road, Orange Police Lt. Ed Tunstall said.
The dispute turned violent when the woman allegedly shot her boyfriend in the back with a .38-caliber handgun, Tunstall said.
Investigators arrived about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and arrested Smith, who is being held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail. A weapon was found inside the home, Tunstall said.
Luke was in stable condition Wednesday at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana and is expected to recover, a hospital spokeswoman said.
