Many Applicants Seek Top L.A. Schools Post

Share

The Los Angeles Unified School District announced Wednesday that 27 people have applied for the superintendent opening, but that number does not include those recruited by an executive search firm.

The district had placed an ad for the top post, which becomes available at the end of June, in several education publications before it hired the firm Heidrick and Struggles to help it attract candidates and narrow the field to between three and five finalists.

Of the applicants, the vast majority are educators--18 have backgrounds in elementary education and two in higher education. Two others hold public sector jobs and five come from the private sector.

So far, only three applicants have made public their interest: Deputy Supt. Ruben Zacarias, former First Interstate CEO William Siart and British educator Matt Dunkley.
