Your Feb. 16 editorial, “Posting Grades on Net Is Too Risky,” rightfully raised concerns about security and accessibility. But there’s a lot more.

The mission of education is the pursuit of truth and knowledge. In an era of functional illiterates and innumerates, why are we spending resources on this high-tech bureaucratic toy? Why are we not marshaling all resources, human and financial, toward teaching our kids how to spell, read and do math?

With the United States trailing the industrialized world in education, and California dragging anchor in the United States, how can we afford to be diverting our focus from teaching?
