Tern of Events--The California least terns will be returning from South America to their breeding grounds on two nesting islands in the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. To welcome them back, a cleanup is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Volunteers should meet at the walk bridge at the reserve parking lot, one mile south of Warner Avenue on Pacific Coast Highway, and bring boots or sturdy shoes, rakes and hoes. Workers will be transported to the islands by boat. Those who prefer to stay on the mainland can help remove debris left on the wetlands by winter storms. The islands, normally off-limits to bird watchers, are used by terns to nest and fledge their young. Information: Bolsa Chica Conservancy, (714) 846-1114 or Amigos de Bolsa Chica, (714) 897-7003.
