Laws Already Protect Gays
* The March 2 letters by Kevin LaPoint and Bill Lakin (“Playing Politics at School”) indicate they did not comprehend the bottom line of Orange County Education Department board member Felix Rocha’s remarks regarding Assembly Bill 101, introduced by Assembly member Sheila Kuehl.
Rocha represents a growing number of people who are drawing attention to the fact our current laws and regulations already cover anyone being harassed or physically assaulted in our schools or elsewhere.
Rocha believes special legal rights need not and should not be granted specifically for homosexuals.
In response to that opinion the above gentlemen publicly labeled Rocha “homophobic,” “a gay-bashing bully,” and a “mean-spirited bigot.” Evidently, they think only homosexuals are sensitive to abuse.
