Some security tips issued by the American Hotel and Motel Assn. contains good advice for travelers of any age:

1. Don’t answer the door in a hotel or motel room without verifying the caller. If the person claims to be a hotel employee, call the front desk to verify it.

2. When returning to your hotel at night use the main entrance. Look around before entering parking lots.

3. Close your room door securely and use all locking devices provided.

4. Don’t display room keys in public or leave them on restaurant tables, at poolside or other locations where they may be stolen.

5. Do not draw attention to yourself by displaying excessive jewelry or money.

6. Do not invite strangers to your room.

7. Place all valuables in the hotel safety deposit box.

8. Do not leave valuables in your vehicle.

9. Check to see that any sliding glass doors or windows or connecting room doors are locked.

10. If you see any suspicious activity, report your observations to hotel security or a member of the management.
