Mississippi

Belzoni, on the Yazoo River in the Mississippi Delta, is farm-raised catfish country, and this year’s 22nd annual World Catfish Festival on April 5 pays homage to the Southern favorite. Nevada

The 15th annual Laughlin River Run, April 24 to 27, will be a died-and-gone-to-heaven weekend for Harley Davidson devotees. At one of the largest ride-in bike shows on the West Coast, more than 20,000 bikes will be parked and waiting for inspection. The festival includes precision drill teams, the Harley Davidson traveling museum, antique and custom motorcycle auction, a miles-long parade of bikes and four parking lots of vendors. Washington, D.C.

The Smithsonian’s 31st annual Kite Festival, April 5, is expected to draw thousands of kite enthusiasts to the grounds of the Washington Monument for a day of competitive and noncompetitive kite flying. This year’s festival commemorates the 250th anniversary of Ben Franklin’s experiments with kites that led to the discovery of electricity.
