Food Stamps

“Prisoners Get Food Stamps, U.S. Study Finds” (March 11) is quite humorous. Have we been appalled by corporate welfare? Have we been upset when there are tax breaks given to the rich? When inmates, equally criminal to a good portion of our politicians, receive an extra $68.89 a month, we are all over them like there is no tomorrow.

Can we really put full responsibility for this situation on the families or the inmates? Or should we be asking why these families need the food stamps, and why other forms of welfare that are ripping off taxpayers aren’t being addressed as heavily as the welfare used by the poor and socially marginalized.
