An Anaheim man was fighting for his life at UCI Medical Center on Monday night after a drunk driver smashed into his car, authorities said.

The Chevrolet Chevette’s 18-year-old passenger, whose name was withheld, was in critical condition Monday night after suffering major internal injuries in the accident, according to Rick Alexander of the Police Department. The Chevette’s driver, whose name was also being withheld, sustained serious injuries but was expected to live, Alexander said.

The Chevette was hit shortly before 6 p.m. when a pickup truck pulled out a driveway on Broadway. The force of the collision put the pickup truck on top of the Chevette’s hood, Alexander said.

The pickup truck’s driver, a 37-year-old man from Northern California whose name was withheld, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Alexander said. Neither the driver, whose bail was set at $10,000, nor his passenger were injured.
