Community College

Carol Jago asks, “Why would two more years in a classroom be good use of their time?” (“Get the First 12 Years Right,” Commentary, March 12). I’ll tell you why, in my son’s words: “My God, Dad, they treat you like adults in community college. They make you feel like you are there because you want to be there, and not because someone is forcing you to be there.”

It was in a community college that my middle son found his special interest. Although his grades and SAT scores weren’t good enough to get into a four-year college, he managed to graduate from Cerritos Community College and then transfer to and graduate from UCLA. From there he went to law school and is now a practicing attorney. Those two years in community college made all the difference in the world. College is for everyone.
