Fitzgerald, Lamour Estate Sales: Property from the estates of two entertainment legends who died last year--”first lady of song” Ella Fitzgerald and movie queen Dorothy Lamour--will be sold May 21 by Sotheby’s Beverly Hills auction house. In addition to numerous photographs of Fitzgerald on stage and with other celebrities, the sale will include her 1960 pearl gray Mercedes-Benz 300-D Cabriolet (expected to bring $60,000 to $90,000), her baby grand piano ($6,000 to $8,000) and personal mementos given her by Ira Gershwin, Frank Sinatra, Count Basie and Pablo Picasso. Among the Lamour items: sarongs from the movies “Jungle Love” and “Typhoon” ($4,000 to $7,000 each), an emerald and rhinestone necklace and earring set from “The Greatest Show on Earth” ($3,000 to $4,000) and a thatched bamboo bar from her home ($1,000 to $1,500). Proceeds from the Fitzgerald items will benefit the Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation.

Roasting Rooney: Mickey Rooney will get a Friars Club of California roasting by friends and colleagues, including Milton Berle, Norm Crosby, Rich Little, Burt Reynolds, Jack Carter, Charles Nelson Reilly, Buddy Hackett and Tommy Lasorda, on May 7 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Larry King will serve as roastmaster. Past Friars Club roastees have included King, Lasorda, Roseanne, Arnold Schwarzenegger and the then-Los Angeles Raiders.

MSNBC Hoax: NBC’s cable offshoot, MSNBC, fell for a hoax Tuesday when it broadcast a false report of an explosion in Israel. The network reported the purported blast and resulting injuries after receiving a call from a man identifying himself as NBC’s Tel Aviv producer, Shelly Howard. The network was about to put the caller on the air when the staff realized it was not Howard on the phone. MSNBC then quickly retracted the report.

“Friends” star Lisa Kudrow will reprise her former role as ditsy waitress Ursula on a May sweeps episode of NBC’s “Mad About You.” . . . Musical compositions by euthanasia proponent Dr. Jack Kevorkian will be released on CD May 27 by Resist Records’ subjazz label Lucid. The selections will be performed by the Morpheus Quintet and proceeds will go toward building Kevorkian’s first permanent clinic for doctor-assisted suicide. . . . A “Las Vegas-style commitment ceremony” for same-sex couples will be held tonight at 7:30 at the Zephyr Theater, preceding the evening’s performance of “Swinging Wild.” Tickets to the play will be two for the price of one.
