The City Council has appointed Michele R. Vadon as the new city attorney to succeed Jerry Patterson, who resigned from the post March 11.

Vadon, like Patterson, is with Burke, Williams & Sorensen in Costa Mesa, the firm that has provided city attorney services for Dana Point since its incorporation in 1989.

Vadon is presently the city attorney for the cities of Lomita and Bellflower.

She also serves as a judge pro tem in Orange County and has 14 years of experience as a senior trial attorney defending public entities and public officers and employees in a variety of civil actions.

In her new position, Vadon will advise the council, commission, governing boards and staff on all aspects of public law, including planning and zoning, land use, labor and employment issues.

In his letter of resignation, Patterson, managing partner at Burke, Williams & Sorensen, said he decided to step down as city attorney to pursue new challenges and to focus his practice on more legislative advocacy in both Sacramento and Washington D.C. Patterson, 62, served as Dana Point’s city attorney since 1989.
