Vet Needs Help With Names for Memorial

Bob Kakuk, leader of the project to build a new veterans’ memorial for Huntington Beach, is asking for help identifying some of the names on the city’s old memorial.

Kakuk, a Vietnam War veteran, has spent two years soliciting money and researching names for the new monument, honoring all fallen Huntington Beach veterans from this century.

The monument is to be unveiled Memorial Day at City Hall.

The old memorial listed only veterans from World Wars I and II, and Kakuk can’t determine which war 12 of the men were in.

He suspects that Cecil E. Boles, Claude Castaing, Richard Cruz, Peter Ekberg, Frank Lyscon, Herschel B. McCubbin, George B. Metzgar, Carlos Rigdon, Joseph Rodman, Forest Turner, George Tyler and Donald Winters either died during World War I or were from outside Orange County, based on his research.
