No Proof Missile Hit TWA Jet, Panel Told
Federal investigators told a House subcommittee that there is no evidence to support claims that a U.S. Navy missile shot down TWA Flight 800 last year off Long Island, N.Y., killing all 230 on board. Officials from the FBI and the National Transportation Safety Board said at a closed-door briefing with members of the House Transportation subcommittee on aviation that they found no support for claims by TV correspondent Pierre Salinger that a Navy missile accidentally hit the Boeing 747, causing it to explode shortly after taking off.
