4 Arrested After Chase of Stolen Motor Home

Two men and two boys stole a motor home from Covina early Thursday and led police on a five-hour chase at speeds up to 95 mph until the unwieldy vehicle became stuck on a dirt road in the Mojave Desert, the California Highway Patrol reported.

“I don’t know where they wanted to end up,” said Officer Scott Weldy of the CHP’s Antelope Valley station.

Timothy Bossart, 24, of Palmdale, and Peyton Canary, 18, of Covina were taken into custody, Weldy said. The two boys are from Palmdale, he said.

The chase--which began in Irwindale--made two loops between the San Gabriel Valley and Palmdale before the motor home got stuck on the second trip through the desert, said CHP Officer Karen Faciane.

Officers from the Covina Police Department saw the vehicle headed north on the San Gabriel River Freeway in Irwindale about 2 a.m., Weldy said. CHP officers also joined in the pursuit.

Initially, Bossart--the motor home driver--headed west on the Foothill Freeway before turning around in Pasadena and heading back east, Faciane said. He went south on the San Gabriel River Freeway, then turned north on the Golden State Freeway in Santa Fe Springs through Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, finally fleeing north on the Antelope Valley Freeway, authorities said.

Leaving the freeway just south of Palmdale, the driver headed east--making a series of turns on rural roads in the desert before crossing into Angeles National Forest and heading back south toward the San Gabriel Valley on Big Tujunga Canyon Road and Angeles Crest Highway, Faciane said.

On the second leg of the loop, he again headed west on the Foothill Freeway through the northern San Fernando Valley and again north up the Antelope Valley Freeway.

He turned east off the freeway on Pearblossom Highway, taking back roads until the vehicle got stuck just before 7 a.m. on a dirt road near Fort Tejon Road and 92nd Street East in Littlerock, Faciane said.

The Covina Police Department said the four were being held on suspicion of auto theft, burglary and resisting arrest.
